Amphibious Assault Monument Dedication
On March 3-4, 1776, Continental Marines and Sailors landed in the Bahamas and attacked British forts there to obtain gunpowder and cannons that were desperately needed by Patriots fighting in the Revolutionary War in the 13 colonies. The success of the raid was not only the capture of military stores and gunpowder, but it also forced the British to maintain a presence in the Caribbean, which meant fewer British soldiers and ships could fight for the Crown in the colonies.
On March 14, 2026 the Florida Society, Sons of the American Revolution, commemorated this event with the dedication of a Memorial Obelisk on the Fisher Family Pier in Pompano Beach, Fl.
The St. Lucie River Chapter, FLSSAR was represented by Chapter President Sherwin Bostick and Compatriot Roger Sherwin.
